Small Blessings

I was 15 when my Grandfather died. 15. I remember crying while my Dad hugged me. Grandpa Joe had great stories. And I felt guilty because as much as I wanted to listen to them all, I also wanted to hug him and just go play with my friends.

Small blessings show up in the toughest of times. God often gives you MORE than you can handle on a regular basis to see what you are made of. I met my Uncle Ted, because my Grandfather passed away. The family split between the east and west coast. I didn't think about it until my grandfather died. I had the great opportunity to fly out west with my grandmother. My Uncle Ted wanted a reunion of sorts at his house in Washington State. I was just 16 years old. He was a younger, more active version of my grandfather. I loved his laughter, his physicality, his love for life. Uncle Ted's laugh could stop a room.

Uncle Ted went out of his way to make all of us comfortable. He also wanted us to see the Pacific Northwest. He was this amazing man I fell in love with. A man I went out of my way to spend time with through my 20s.

Uncle Teddy passed away this week. It hit me really hard. I find myself walking around my kitchen, apologizing that I haven't been to see him in 9 years. But I hear his laughter. I know that I am better because he was in my life. I recognize that it took death of a loved one, for this man to be in my life. Life is all full of twists and turns. People will show up to help you through tough times. My uncle taught me to laugh regardless of the pain you're going through. He taught me to love, even when you no longer can touch a person. He taught me that blessings can be found in tough times.

I am grateful for my time with my grandfather and my uncle. I am sad they are gone, but I am a better person because they were both in my life. I can't go say goodbye at his funeral this weekend, but I hear his laughter and that makes me smile.

How do you say goodbye from a distance? Faith tells me he can hear my prayers and faith lets me hear his laughter. Faith tells me his is free.

Happy birthday to our big puppy Ruby! She is a year old today. Ruby is still quite shy but she will quietly greet you when you are lying down getting adjusted. She loves to lounge on the seats by our front window. Ruby loves when babies and children are in the office. We are blessed to have Ruby as a part of our BFC family.

Emotional Stress

It is estimated that emotional stress causes up to 85% of disease outcomes.  By comparison, genetics contribute up to only 25%.  In other words, when our body gets sick, it is most likely related to our thoughts.  At Beacom Family Chiropractic, we seek to provide a safe and happy place for people to be able to release the emotional tug, breathe, and let go.  Your adjustments are great for mind and body, to get your body working in unison.  It is crucial that during times of emotional stress we continue getting adjusted if not up the frequency of adjustments. Keeping your body working well during times of emotional turmoil is the key to getting through it all in a healthy fashion.  Allowing our body to get sick when stressed serves no one and definitely doesn't provide the strength you need through hard times. When things get tough, as they sometimes will, we need to make the habit of doing more of what keeps us healthy, not less.  Regardless of what is going on in your life, we are always here for you.

Saturday Hours

I love my Saturday adjusting hours! The reason we are closed so much through September and October is because I have 3 seminar weekends, a family vacation and our town's famous Pumpkin Roll.  Look for us on top of the hill each year.  We never miss this beloved event!

My next Saturday that I will be in the office, is Saturday, October 28th from 9am-12noon.  We are returning to our "winter" hours once again.  Saturdays are great for our practice members that come from a distance, work far away during the week and those that are in the beginning phase of care where they are in need of three times a week.  I am excited to have my Saturdays back again!  See you soon!

Have you been to our Health Awareness Seminar yet?

Do you know what true health is? We've asked many people and I'm not sure I've heard even one person answer this question correctly! So if you don't know what health is, how do you create health in your body?

Find out more on 10/10 @6:30pm at our office.

Harvey is the newest addition to the BFC family.  He is a "Great Danoodle," and quite the goofy dog.  Harvey was named after Harvey Lillard, the man that received the very first Chiropractic adjustment in 1895.  He is also Dr. Brent's shadow.  Expect to be greeted with a great big smile from Mr. Harvey next time you are in the office!

Why do we have "therapy" dogs in our office?

Thea, our black lab passed away in April of this year, but she has passed the torch to Ruby and our newest puppy, Harvey.  We provide a space for healing in our office and dogs make people happy!  Both of our dogs get concerned when they hear a child crying and will investigate to make sure all is well.  Ruby and Harvey are very loving dogs and they look forward to greeting you here at BFC.
