What is Chiropractic? (Excerpt taken from Life University)
Chiropractic is a unique and powerful approach to health that is comprehensive and holistic. Chiropractic is a philosophy of health, a science of the nervous system, spine, and cranial bones, and an art of helping people regain their health naturally. It recognizes that the body is an intelligent, self-developing, self-maintaining, and self-healing organism, and understands that the nervous system controls every part of the body, including the immune system. Chiropractic believes that the body works best when the nervous system is free of damaging interferences which cause malfunction, symptoms and diseases, and a reduced quality of life. It observes that there are three types of stress: physical trauma, emotional stress, and environmental toxins that all cause major interference to the body called Subluxation. Chiropractors correct Subluxation in the cranial and spinal bones, allowing the nervous system to function more normally, releasing the body's innate potential to regain health naturally, and paving the way for you to experience wellness throughout life.
Our Massage Therapist provides a range of services from chair massage, deep tissue therapy, relaxation massage, pregnancy and baby/infant/child massage, cold stone massage, therapeutic-clinical massage, scar tissue treatment, and massage for special needs clients. Heather is also certified in Blomberg Rhythmic Movements. To date she has completed, Blomberg Rhythmic Movement Training for Pain Management Part One with Dr. Harold Blomberg and BRMT for Exceptional Children Part One with Kate Wagner. With other BRMT classes on the horizon, Heather has started to incorporate Rhythmic Movements into her care. She has the benefit of 30-60 minute appointments and she can offer more intensive treatment options for clients. These movements help work with different areas of the brain and encourage neuron growth and improved overall brain health.
To parents, teachers, and therapists of children with special needs: Are your children getting the outcomes you anticipated, especially with your current therapies?
Rhythmic Movement Training, will supplement and enhance all other therapies you may be implementing. Rhythmic Movements link together different parts of the brain with the goal of bringing each child to their maximum potential. These specific movements assist in integrating the primitive, postural and lifelong reflexes. For infants, children, teens and adults, BRMT is about resetting the foundations of brain organization and postural abilities by completing developmental steps that may have been missed because of pre-natal trauma or due to injury, stress or environmental conditions during infancy or later in life. Movements that exist as inborn motor, primitive reflex patterns and continue throughout our lives may need to be activated and integrated to help an individual develop normally and perform optimally." Esoteric Healing is a form of energy work used to treat the body's energy fields. Illness, which is an indication that we are out of balance, first appears as a block in our energy field. If left unattended over time, it shows up in our physical body. For example, the root of a physical problem may be an emotional trauma from childhood which, over time, has presented itself as a physical problem. Through energy work, the emotional block can be removed, which allows the physical pain or problem to resolve. Jen uses various balancing techniques to remove energy blocks and create a more flowing and healthy state. If we keep our energy fully vitalized and clear of blocks, we stay healthier. Esoteric healing is a perfect adjunct to your chiropractic care.
Most physical, emotional, and mental conditions can benefit from Esoteric Healing. These include back/neck pain, extremity pain, Fibromyalgia, emotional traumas, ADHD, PTSD, developmental delay, cardio-pulminary, gastrointestinal, depression, bipolar disorder, amputee phantom pain, headaches, and numerous other conditions. Jen has a special interest in neurologic disorders such as Parkinson's, Multiple Sclerosis, Autism, brain injury, stroke, dementia/Alzheimer's, spinal cord injury, and ALS.
Jen recently completed a case report studying the effectiveness of Esoteric Healing for Parkinson's disease. Overall, her client made significant subjective and objective improvements following five weeks of Esoteric Healing treatment. She was more functional, energetic, and motivated. Objective tests revealed increased confidence with many functional tasks and increased speed of movement. She also reduced her use of meds by 1-2 doses per day (most often eliminated 2 doses). She was very pleased with her progress. The Doctors' son Miles started walking at 22 months old due to Cranial Adjustments by Dr. Roger Turner in Canada, and he continues to make great progress. However, both Doctors realized their son still had coordination challenges, and that he was not moving like a little boy should. Miles was not a risk taker. In fact, he would rather have help than do things himself. Dr. Helena heard about Jen Wolffis, and spoke with several people that were driving to Grand Haven to see her for energy work. Dr. Brent brought Miles to see Jen for three consecutive visits. On the fourth visit, Dr. Helena met Jen for the first time, and watched Miles throughout the hour session. Suddenly, Miles stood up, looked at the stairs, and started climbing up and down; something he never did on his own before! Miles started really improving with his leg movements and his courage at trying new things. Dr. Helena decided that other parents could utilize Jen's services, so Jen was invited to be a part of the BFC team!
